ABOUT Leather Care Specialists If you need to send that comfy old jacket you love so much, or your leather coat that was a very special gift for service, you should know who you're doing business with. Maybe this will help. My name is Dena Hamilton. I'm the owner of Leather Care Specialists & Great Leather. I've loved working with leather since I made my first purse in 1971. Since then, I've sewn hard and soft, thin and heavy, stretchy or not, smooth and marbled, top grain and splits. My experience has kept me busy designing and making patterns, selecting hides and scrutinizing pattern pieces, and experimenting with different finishes, glues, and threads. It was all preparation! In 1997, my husband and I settled in Avon, IL. where I started the service business, The Leather Care Specialist. Folks loved my work, I loved serving them, and my business grew. In 2002, I was blessed to meet an amazing woman with more years seamstress experience. I put her to work right away, teaching her the differences in fabric and leather. Her name is Berta Rohrer. She puts a zipper in a leather coat probably better than I can. Next, through a mutual love of horses and leather, I was blessed again. Karen Douglass is smart, hard working, and fun. She brings great organizational skills and has become an expert at cleaning, conditioning, and redying coats. Today, we are Leather Care Specialists!
