This bag was first made for pro drummer, Gary Sullivan (former drummer for Reba McEntire, member of the Western Swing Hall of Fame, and world class percussionist). It was made to the specifications he wished for in the design of the "ultimate" drumstick bag in 1990. In 2003, I went over all the seams and reconditioned it for him. He is still using it today.

It takes 10 square feet of quality top grain leather to make this bag! It's fully lined with the same leather on the inside, and has light filler between the layers for "a little extra." All the stress points throughout have extra stitches of bonded nylon thread.

It has two flapped pockets on the outside for your drum key, moongel, etc. The inside has a large pocket divided in three sections with a flap. The closure is velcro and the leather handle has a soft, strong 5/8" cord inside. It comes with two S hooks for use with the grommets at the top outside edges of the bag. Simply open your stick bag, flip the inside flap out and hang the bag on your side tom!

When Dena first brought me this stick bag,  I was totally amazed by the workmanship and the quality of the leather.  
Let's be straight:  this is,  without a doubt,  the Rolls-Royce of stick bags, so much so that for the first 2 weeks I was reluctant to take it out of the house!  But to keep it locked away would be a bit like owning a Ferrari and never driving it,  so I finally plucked up the courage and took it with me on gigs and sessions.
It is very compact,  and yet holds exactly what's needed for most gigging drummers: Several pairs of sticks, brushes, blastiks etc...  The protective flap (which folds over the sticks in their compartments) is a nice idea, as is the way it stands up on its own when you close it.  There is a really sturdy handle on the top, too.  On the outside there are a couple of useful pockets for drum keys etc...  The whole thing attaches to the floor tom by way of 2 well-placed hooks.  A lot of thought has gone into the ergonomics of this bag, I can tell.

SO far it has worn extremely well.  As I said,  I was a little concerned,  given the high quality of the leather,  but leather being what it is,  it can take everyday knocks and bangs extremely well.  If you are a Heavy Metal drummer,  who breaks 10 pairs of sticks a night,  this is possibly not the stick bag for you,  but then I doubt if there IS a bag to cater for your needs!  For me, personally,  this has everything I need,  and adds a touch of class whilst doing it!

Every drummer should treat themselves to it!

A little tid bit about Charlie as told by Wikipedia- ... By 1985, he was one of the busiest session drummers in Europe, which attracted the attention of Elton John, who booked him to play on his Ice on Fire album. Later that year John invited him to play with his band at Live Aid. This was the start of a thirteen year period of recording and touring with John.

I've played drums since 1972, and have owned dozens of stick bags and cases. This bag leaves all others in the dust. Even stick bags supposedly endorsed or designed by major drumset artists don't begin to approach this one, in terms of pure beauty, elegance and durability. I've spent 35 years searching for the perfect kit, the perfect cymbals, and the perfect kick pedal. I'm still searching, but I've found the stick bag of my dreams. If you absolutely need to bring dozens of pairs of sticks, brushes, mallets to every gig, this isn't likely your cup of tea. But on the gig last night, I brought my Great Leather bag, filled with 2 pairs of brushes, 4 pairs of sticks and a pair of yarn mallets. The 2 front pouches are handy also, and easily hold drum keys, felts, and -- for those who have to work with female lead singers -- a small can of mace. It ain't cheap, but neither are Rolexes, Porsches and Prada purses. I may not be a great drummer, but carrying this bag into a gig makes me feel like I can play one on TV. It's not a question of whether this is the best stick bag available. The question is, "Do you deserve it?"
