Our quality guarantee. At GREAT LEATHER, only the best hides of the tannery stock we work with are accepted. Although no two hides are alike, we always strive for consistency in our leather's look, feel, and strength. Next, a lot of thought goes into pattern placement. For example, if we are making a jacket, the elbows are cut where there is the least amount of stretch. The panels holding pockets would be chosen for their strength. The leather backside is searched closely for thin spots.
Other considerations (resulting in leather variances) are color, grain, and markings. Color and grain must be considered when you want to purchase an item trying to get an exact match to a picture or something you had purchased previously. We do our very best to match all pieces as closely as possible from one item to the next. Sometimes, however, dye lots will be slightly differently.
When dealing with certain markings, we cut around those we consider flaws. Any other markings that you may see are ones we consider to be part of the leather's individual beauty. These markings make the product even more unique and "one of a kind".
All seams, sewn only with bonded nylon thread, are reinforced where needed. Seams in areas that might be more prone to stretching have been sewn with the addition of a non-stretch tape for reinforcement. Other techniques and practices that create a great finished look are applied. Then the final product assessment is made - Will this do a great job for the customer and will they love it?
